Mani; our baby boy

Preston Douglas • June 28, 2021

It's with a heavy heart that we let you know that our little man is no longer with us. At some point in the early hours of yesterday morning (6.26) the Manster cried out in pain, originally we thought that he hyperextended one of his front legs or was experiencing severe arthritis. But when he couldn't stand/walk on his own and when he refused to eat (Mani never turned down food) we knew something was wrong. When we took him to the vet it didn't take long for the doctor to tell us that our poor baby had suffered a stroke.... Mani has had head issues in the past in the form of seizures but they were nothing serious and he always bounced back. The good doctor told us that we could put him on steroids' and that might help him but he wouldn't be the same in fact given his age (little man was either 13 or 14) they would probably do more harm than good and that putting him down would be the merciful thing to do...

That was without a doubt the hardest decision either of us (his mama and I) had to make... Our hearts are broken...

For those that don't know Mani came into our lives May 29, 2015 when we adopted him from the Adams County Animal Shelter in Brighton, CO. At the time it was just me we didn't meet the wonderful women that would become his Mama till 6 months later. Right from the get go I knew this little guy was something special for the exact moment he saw me he jumped right into my lap and refused to leave and from then on we never left each others side. A few months later his Mama came into the picture and it was love at first sight. Over the course of the next year and a half Mani had everyone that met him in the palm of his had. Whether it be his grandpawrents, our neighbors, or a squishy slobber faced boxer that would become his big little brother.

To say Mani had a terrible first impression of Jax is an understatement. After a year and a half of being the king of the house, there was suddenly this romping clown drooling over everything, invading Mani's personal space, taking his mom and dad's attention, and well being a overall annoying little brother. But it didn't take long for the little Mani to realize Jax was a warm snuggle buddy to sleep with during those cold Wyoming winters. But while Jax was a loving addition to the family he wasn't the last. For a few years later Mr. Julius came into the picture and while unfortunately Mani never developed a good relationship with Jules it didn't stop the cockadork from being a good but annoying bubba.

To say Mani lived a full life is an understatement. This little boy always loved a good adventure whether it was him moving from Colorado to Wyoming then to Florida back to Wyoming and then back to Colorado. Or taking a family adventure to his great grandpawrents property and playing with his cousins or claiming the title "King of the Mountain" on one of the many trips to the beautiful Colorado mountains. But nothing can compare to the trips he took with his dad when dad had to go over the road for work. Those adventures took him to Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kentucky, Illinois, and Indiana but while he had the time of his life he took his job as "dad's travel buddy" very seriously helping dad find a job that would bring him home every night and more importantly allow Mani to sleep in a king sized bed. The only bed fit for the little king.

Our hearts are broken to have to say goodbye to our little man... And the world seems to be a darker place without him... But we know that he's in heaven snuggling God and causing a fight among the angels on who gets to take him on his next adventure but our hearts are broken nonetheless.... But we know that he can never truly be gone for he is always in our hearts. Goodbye little Mani we love you
